FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q.  What is the Aldeburgh Society?
A.  The society is a charity based in Aldeburgh Suffolk with over 500 members. Its purpose is to care for and preserve the character of the town of Aldeburgh and its surroundings and to encourage environmentally friendly development which will enhance the character of this historic town.

Q.  How does the Society do this?
A.  By inspecting all planning applications and by means of meetings, publications and making representations to Aldeburgh Town Council and Suffolk Coastal District Council and by linking with like-minded bodies such as the Suffolk Preservation Society and the Aide and Ore Association.

Q.  Who is involved?
A.  There is a main committee, which is divided in to three sub-committees, Planning, Amenities and Publicity. A committee member aims to attend all meetings of Aldeburgh Town Council.

Q. Why do you need members? Surely you would be doing this anyway.
A.  We represent the views of members not just of the committee. Our opinions only count if we have a significant membership in the Town. We also need subscriptions from our members to be able to carry out our work.

Q.  Do members of the Society meet together?
A.  The Society has a programme of lectures during the winter, which are also pleasant social occasions and which offer an opportunity to hear about the work of the Society. There is also a party each year on Twelfth Night.

Q.  How much is the subscription?
A.  It is just £10 per year, which covers all adults in a household.

Q.  How do I join?
A.  By telephoning the membership Secretary Mrs. Smith on 01728 453793 or by down-loading an application form from our web-site.

Q.  Can I join the Committee?
A.  We are always looking for new committee members, who have the time available to help us. Please contact the Society on 0845 8908930.
